C U P C A K E S

So we've been meaning to do a post on CUPCAKES for a while now, more specifically, a comparision on SPRINKLES cupcakes vs. CRUMBS bake shop.

We are an avid Sprinkles supporter, and have been for two years now, but recently someone brought our attention to Crumbs Bake Shop. In fact, they even told us Crumbs was BETTER than Sprinkles. We had to taste for ourselves.

Walking on LITTLE SANTA MONICA, towards Crumbs, we felt like a traitor. There was a long line at Sprinkles and as we walked past it almost felt like everyone was glaring and knew where we were going (we very well know this was our own imagination, but still). We arrived at a completely EMPTY Crumbs and stared at all the cupcakes. It seriously took us five minutes to decide what to get because it was so OVERWHELMING. In the end we got two, a chocolatey one and a vanilla semi fruity one. After two bites from each cupcake we instantly made our choice: Sprinkles was by far better.

Here's the PROBLEM, or shall we say the problems: Crumbs cupcakes are too BIG. Your full by the time you eat half, and we could barely fit our mouths on the whole cupcake. Second, Crumbs cupcakes are too COMPLICATED. There's chocolate with vanilla frosting mixed with raspberry jam with mini M&M's, with chocolate drizzle with custard inside. Too Much! We were going haywire just trying to figure out which cupcake we wanted. Sure they look nice, but the look didn't match up with the taste. Last, for as big as the cupcakes were, there wasn't enough FROSTING, and we didn't find the frosting that great either. Crumbs Bake Shop is just another cupcake chain that just isn't that special.

Here's why we like Sprinkles so much: The cupcake is the PERFECT size to where you can finish the whole thing and not feel like a beached whale afterward. Also, Sprinkles keeps it SIMPLE; red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, for example. You walk into Sprinkles and your not taken aback by a WHIRLWIND of toppings. They put the perfect amount of FROSTING on the cupcake so that with each bite you get the perfect combination of cake and delectable frosting. The frosting is to die for and the cake is perfectly MOIST and not too sweet, just right. Simplicity is key here. Sprinkles is a simple yet UNIQUE cupcake boutique (not a chain) that satisfies your every need.

Crumbs may look nice and provoke your taste buds, but Sprinkles is the overall winner due to their ability to perfecty master the cupcake in every aspect. So take that Crumbs!

Okay, so HONESTLY we're not into these massive rave things; we personally like things a little more intimate...but that's just us. However, ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL is coming up in JUNE and we took a peek at the line up and we are thoroughly IMPRESSED! Scratch that, we're a bit ESSATIC! We couldn't ask for more, except for maybe DAFT PUNK, but we know were stretching it there (we have seen them live btw, in an intimate setting, it was LIFE CHANGING). Anyway, the lineup includes the following of which we are very excited about:

FAKE BLOOD
SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO
BOYS NOIZE
BENNY BENASSI
DAVID GUETTA
LE CASTLE VANIA
DIPLO
DJ AM
PAUL OAKENFOLD
FEDDE LE GRAND
FATBOY SLIM

We've seen Simian Mobile Disco (amazing!), Le Castle Vania (rocked it), DJ Am (we fell in love), and Paul Oakenfold (don't really remember that night), and we would LOVE to see them again, most DEFINITELY! But we have been DYING to see FAKE BLOOD live, he(she?) has been on our radar for a while now. BOYS NOIZE is another we have been patiently awaiting. Our best friend saw him in NEW YORK and called us during the show and we cant even say how jealous of him we were. The others we listed are one that have been on our list to see live as well, so we are going to do our very best to be there, we just cant see ourselves missing this! Ciao.

A little something to brighten up your weekend, and your nails: OPI nail colour in DATING A ROAYAL is our new favourite nail obsession. We've had it on our nails for close to a week now and cant stop looking at our hands! This colour looks great and brings out the best in ANY skin tone. We are pretty fussy with our nails and usually stick with red, black or marroon nail polish, but we really cant imagine ourselves getting bored with this. We will definetly be wearing this throughout the spring and SUMMER! And for NINE dollars, it's the least expensive way to add some colour to your ensemble and add some overall SPUNK to your style.
Quick hint: apply three coats of this fun and bold colour to get the best results!

We have stumbled across something so refreshing and original, that we just can't stop listening. It's completely INFECTIOUS. Therefore, we are obligated to share with you. Although they have been around and making music since 2002, this is the first we have heard of THE JUAN MACLEAN. Now, we were a bit confused as to what the story of this epic electronic act were, but we think we figured it out. Heres the rundown: John Maclean is an electronic musician and is the founder of THE JUAN MACLEAN. Nancy Whang of LCD SOUNDSYSTEM soon joined in and provides the female vocals; they are signed to DFA RECORDS, and there you have it. According to them, they want WORLD DOMINATION, and we don't see why not, their music is GENIUS. It's clean and crisp and every track off their new album THE FUTURE WILL COME is solid, and we haven't had that experience in a long time. Were not sure if this is temporary or not, but right now you can buy the album off ITUNES for 5.99, and being seriously serious people, its well worth it. EVERYONE needs to experience this beautiful music. One of our FAVOURITE tracks off the album is SIMPLE LIFE...listen to it and you will be hooked, then go out and buy the album.

A little while ago we were complaining about how we haven't heard anything too great out of the HIP HOP scene for a while. Well, we found what we were missing!!! CHIDDY BANG is a breath of fresh air, and everything we could hope for when it comes to hip hop. We see big things happening for them in the future. Their songs are intelligent, witty, relatable, catchy and even at times, dancey. The BEST part? they combine ELECTRO beats with FRESH lyrics. our FAVOURITE track by these boys out of Philly is KIDS. we've had it on repeat for the last 3 hours...and probably days to come. The beat for this track is crazy PERFECT...nuff' said. Add in NOSTALGIC lyrics, and you have a winner, and that is clearly what they are. Enjoy kids below.

Okay, so we're a little hesitant posting this track at this point in the game, but screw it. THE VIRGINS had themselves a hit with RICH GIRLS, with everyone and their mother remixing it. OHH! CRAPP loves the HEMINGWAY remix, and while we usually agree with him, well, this time we dont. In fact, the Hemingway remix completely turned us off to the song all together, so were kind of baffled at why he claims Hemingway's version is so great. But hey, to each their own. Our FAVOURITE remix of Rich Girls is the LE CASTLE VANIA, to, us, he absolutely KILLS IT with this one. It dosen't have the typical Le Castle Vania "sound", which is neither good nor bad, it just IS; but we absolutely LOVE IT.

Below, sample the Hemingway remix and the Le Castle Vania remix and decide for yourself which one suits your listening taste.

Rich Girls (Le Castle Vania's Spring Break No Parents Remix)
P.S. since our spring break is just starting we think Le Castle Vania's mix is very fitting
